Is This For Real?
We have all heard the term shallow environmentalism but I never thought that shallowness could become sooooo thin.
The upcoming Grammy Awards is planning on promoting the annual music bash as a Green event. Only in la la land would a person have the temerity to speak about becoming green by advocating high fashion , stylish items , extravagant consumption, a 4 hour gala with all sorts of sumptous food and a bag of totally unnecessary but expensive freebies.
This years Grammys is being congratulated for its environmental commitment and its devotion to mother nature. After all, each of the lucky participants will be given a free Infinity Sun treatment in addition to traditional "bag of swag" and the "green with Music" celebration. All environmentalists should take note that a sunless anti aging tan is such a major step in fostering environmental awareness and spreading the belief in simple life styles, no growth and sustainability that we should all rejoice at this development. Please tell me that all of this is a dream or more aptly a nightmare.
haha I like the bit about the sunless anti aging tan
ReplyDeleteI came across this on a website and thought it was pretty funny..
"Celebs go green:
Well, not literally because that would just be silly. Especially being as Michael Jackson is the most recent famous bod to join the environmentally friendly crowd and purchase the Toyota Prius car. The eccentric star, who has often been accused of having a carbon footprint and frequently charters private planes, spent around $20,000; joining the masses including Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Ferrell, Cameron Diaz and Harrison Ford.
I doubt this will make Mike the environment guru all of a sudden but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Maybe it will make up for the fact that after all the plastic surgery the man has had we’re not entirely sure if he is even bio degradable anymore.
But anyway, this car is supposed to be Hollywood’s hybrid car of choice; running on electricity and petrol. Ferell has gushed about how much he loves his car; even going as far as to say it is “sexy.”"

The Grammy awards can't go green.
ReplyDeleteEvery year new and already established "artists", based on the idea of bigger is better, compete to see who can make the best music. These artists promote bling blang with every move they make, starting with their music videos and ending with their outfits. Every year the Grammys try to out do the previous year adding more colors and lights that will make anyone at a disco biscuit concert have a seizure. This is not green. This is not even aqua blue.
Sustainability is not on their minds. The only reason that they are using green is because it is a good marketing ploy thought up by very smart people who are using their brain power in a way that adversely effects our world. Our friends at the marketing and advertising firms only have one green on their mind, it is 2.6 inches wide, 6.1 inches long, and made out of rag paper.
"Of course, the primary attraction here is the official Grammy Gift Bag, given out to performers and presenters (and, we're told, some of their close friends). It's filled with all the usual goodies — jewelry and vouchers for stays at spas and resorts, of course — plus a whole bunch of glorious ephemera, like designer baby wear, draught-beer dispensers, underwear and coupons for free dental care. The price tag? A little more than $30,000. Per bag." http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1581263/20080209/cyrus__miley.jhtml
That is not green. Glorious ephemera? (Don't worry I looked it up; originally used to describe a fever that lasted a day, something that only lasts a day.) That's even worse. MTV News knows that it is "ephemera" but still praises it as something that will make the crops grow during a drought.
Free dental care, designer baby wear, where are the pocket sized monkeys playing fan fare? This is what people drool all over when they put on E! entertainment, and because of this constant spittle, things like this will continue to go underway without being moped up. Green would be taking that money and donating it to a philanthropic organization. Not perpetuating the line between the affluent and the on lookers who so desire to see the accumulation of ridiculous objects by people they will never meet.

wow... It's so said that this is what they think will help the planet. Green should not be a fashion or hollywood trend. It should be a way of life and not about sunless tanning

I think that the subject of "going green" has no real authenticity anyway it is just a "cool" term and a part of a growing fad.

ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about this while I was eating breakfast this morning. About how much material and energy is spent in making trophies and medals that will be put away in a glass case and dusted every now and then. I wonder what the civilization that comes after us will think of these pointless things we leave behind; if they will ever come to the conclusion that this stuff had no actual functional significance.

Despite the fact that celebrities driving hybrid cars or the public service announcements the movie and TV production is an operation, consuming enormous amounts of power to feed bright lights, run cameras, and feed a cast of thousands. They build these huge sets, out of wood, steel, paint and plastic. That are often torn down and tossed out after filming ends.
ReplyDelete“A two-year study released last year by the University of California, Los Angeles, concluded that special effects explosions, idling vehicles and diesel generators make the entertainment industry a major Southern California polluter, second only to the oil industry.”
I find it really funny that Hollywood is trying to “go green”….. Until they reduce their use of energy consumption on Film sets, there is no way this could happen.
