I am for clean energy provided it is in someone else's backyard

It has often been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well in this case it sure is.
I honestly think that it would be redundant to say much about the accompanying image, it tells the whole story and very effectively for that matter. It also demonstrates clearly that most of us are not that sincere about the claims that we make.(Thanks Marcia)

  1. Quite simply put, people demand cheap energy. The market responds. This cyclical sickness is our own fault. Its also quite sad to see that so much work has been put and is still being put into maximizing the potential of alternative power sources yet we keep pushing them aside. Even those that feel we are harming our world tend to turn the other cheek and "live in the now". Furthermore I find it hard to believe that people will give up their emphasis on current wasteful technology addiction. Even if I did not want to use the computer because of its environmental impacts, I am required to do so for many of my classes.

  2. Jon,
That is one reason why it is so difficult to undertake meaningful change. The whole way that society is set up does not encourage doing doing the right thing. It is a systemic problem.

  3. Professor,

I totally agree. In fact as much as I applaud alternative power to help bring us away from some of the crimes we commit to the environment (crimes in my view anyhow)I recently have felt a deep conflict that no matter how good my intentions are, Im still referring a technological fix to displace other wasteful technology. In this manner of thought I'm still contributing to the problem. Even though it would be an amazing jump in safety and health. I am in a way if I encourage this, encouraging increased energy consumption and dependence through a lifestyle of unnatural decadence. I find it hard to believe that we would still act responsibly even with efficient technology emphasis as we have be shown by our past that we create many more problems from this.
